Vamos a Delta!

June 30th

Hans, Wilhelm, Tim, Stijnus, & Barb getting ready to leave Lehi, UT.
We had six people and two new cars joining us today. Ronald and Rena Thurber, Rob and Tamie Williams in a 1914 Overland, and Anne and Bill Ottemann in their 1912 Regal. It was awesome cruising lakeside through the undulating countryside and looking back to see our all of our friends behind us.
Rena and Tamie rode with Emily and I in the maxwell for the morning. We had a great time talking about traveling and their life with old cars. If you ladies read this, can you please send me an e-mail address through the blog comments or Rich? I forgot to ask.

The drafts from the semi’s were super intense today, however, the bugs and the roadkill were tame. As the morning turned into afternoon, the heat became absolutely stifling. 15 miles outside of Delta, UT we stopped at B & D’s Hip Hop Stop for some cool air and lunch. B & D’s is cute little gas station/diner that has “cruise night’s” . We were right at home with our posse of old cars! They serve simple lunches and good local ice cream! B & D’s is located at: 594 S. Hyw. 6 Lynndyl, Utah. Really the only stop between Lehi and Delta. Some photos from our stop below. Check out that sky!

All day everyday, Emily and I keep an eye on the oil gauge. We are looking to make sure the gauge is dripping oil. For those of you that are not familiar, think hourglass. Today, for the first time since New York, it stopped dripping 3 miles outside of final point for the day. That means, for some reason, the oil is not getting to the engine. We stopped immediately and found out that we had some air in the line. After we (and by we I mean Rich) blew the air out it was smooth sailing into Delta. Our hotel had a nice pool, grassy area to hang out and some good Mexican food right next door at Mi Rancherito. A relaxing cheese filled evening was had by all!. 5 1/2 days that Babbs has been a total road warrior! Onward to the Nevada state line tomorrow!

Keep an eye on that oil! So glad to hear it was only an air bubble. I am still following you through this wonderful blog and still wishing we were there with you. Thank you for making all of us that are reading these blogs a part of this wonderful, historic trip. Tell Babbs it’s all down hill from here and the rest of the crew to drive safely. Jenny Washburn

P.S. Sorry that Stijnus could not make the entire trip and had to leave, I am sure Hans and Wilhelm will do a wonderful job of handling the Spyker and the American roads. In Stijnus’s honor, remember it is tradition to stop for coffee about 10:00am and beer about 4:00 or 5:00pm.

What a great adventure! I recently read about Alice’s trip in AAA and decided to find out more, since I am writing a book about women who embodied the true meaning of “Spirit” and were forerunners and role models for the rest of us. Here I find out we still have inspired women who want to recognize and validate these brave women who stood in for all of us! Wonderful! In a small way, this allows me to be a participant as well. What a marvelous journey you are all on. I can’t wait to see the film finalized.
Thank you for all of us.

Wow, what an amazing journey! Thanks to Paulee for cluing us in. Christy, we’ll be looking for you in Reno tomorrow. Let us know if there’s a time/place we could catch up with you (or at least wave from the roadside) =)
Cheers,

GO BABS, I am glad to hear that she is running good. Tim & Rich are finally getting some rest. I’m sure the tension has just about disapeared from their minds & that sure makes the trip that more enjoyable for them, It’s tough to relax when you are always worring about breaking down. It’s all down hill now. Keep smiling & hi to everyone.

Over the Rockies and through the desert — now only the Sierra to go. You and Babbs can make it!! Wish we could be driving along with you (in a “modern” MG!)

Hey – 2000+ miles before your first traffic ticket. Congratulations. Something else Alice didn’t have to worry about. Still with you in spirit! Westward ho!

What an amazing journey you have all embarked on. We pray for your safety as well as time to create a wonderful memory for your family and team. Blessings to you all.
Following your progress has been a vivid reminder of what it has meant to say “California or bust”. Your tenacity in the face of adversity has given us a deeper appreciation for all those who have made that journey. Godspeed as you reach for that glorious Golden Gate.

We passed you as you were coming into Austin, Nevada on our way to Utah. I don’t know if you suffered the torrent rains that we did as we went though Nevada, but if so you and your team are amazing!

I am LOVING reading about your adventures. Wish I were with you! Keep on rolling along. You are amazing! (I always knew that about Christie, though.)

Wow, what great pictures! Thanks to everyone that’s been posting the blogs. Even though we’re stuck back here in IL, it feels like we’re riding behind you all the way to San Fran. Tim and Rich are awesome. I”m not sure who was having more fun when Babbs was behaving, you girls or the guys who put Babbs together. Tell the camera crew they are very photogenic. It’s nice to see shots of that group posted on here as well. Keep up the good work. We’re all rooting for ya.

Just read about you in the VC Quarterly. Today I’m celebrating my 70th birthday vicariously enjoying your adventure. I’ve been back & forth a few times, but not as neatly as you are doing it. (And had my share of breakdowns!) San Francisco is waiting for you.

Greetings to Team Anderson from the Ramsey/Phillips household on this Fourth of July, 2009!
Not a day goes by when one of us – Peter, Andrew or me – does not look at your website to get the latest updates and read about your marvelous adventure! You have been so brave and tenacious and good-spirited in the face of challenges that would have left anyone else crestfallen and ready to throw in the towel. But you hve persevered and you are almost “home” – most certainly in the home stretch…how is Kaisa holding up????
We continue to pray for you and all of your fellow passengers and entourage, hoping that MANY happy moments are serendipitously peppered throughout the angst over the possibility of engine troubles. I imagine that the good spirited friendship of Alice and Hermine, just like the ebullient synergy between Emily and Christie, and the laughter of your whole team, will bring you to the Golden Gate with the promise of history well-celebrated, energy well-spent, team memories like none other, and many many stories to be told!
We are sorry not to be with you as you complete “Emily’s Grand Adventure” next week, but we will be all eyes and open hearts as you cross the finish line…
Love from Peter, Andrew and Isabel
