We left from the Pierce Arrow Museum, in Buffalo, NY at 8 am. The whole team was anxious to get out on the open road and get some miles under our belts! There were 3 mile stones today. 1. The Maxwell made it through the whole day! 2. It was our longest day on the entire drive! 3. We left New York State.
WE MADE IT TO AURORA, OH!!!!
The day was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky, and we had the luxury of stopping several times. Our first stop was at the Woodlawn Park beach where there is lovely view of the Buffalo skyline. Shortly there after we had a coffee stop at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Graycliff Mansion, arranged, again, by our Buffalo host, Jim Sandoro. It was a beautiful place with wonderful supportive smiling faces. Buffalo was great!
Emily and I were delighted to find ourselves following the Chautauqua Wine Trail for a few hours this morning. Miles and miles of vineyards! It was a tough day because we had a lot of ground to cover and there were many enticing places to stop. Wineries EVERYWHERE, pick your own strawberries, beautiful homes…… even a pirate festival!!! Aside from the copious amounts of roadkill, this was, by far the most beautiful day we have had.
We made two stops after the museum. One to eat lunch at Meeders Cafe and one at the White Turkey root beer stand. The White Turkey was particularly amusing, because the gentlemen from the Netherlands, who are traveling with us in the Spyker, had never heard of Root Beer.
It was sunny, but cold in the beginning of the day…..(in a car with no windshield, roof or doors). Em and I felt chilled to the bone and our eyes were tearing even under our huge shades . Many layers were added and removed throughout the day. Em debuted her new Smith goggles today and I got to kick up my bare feet.
The last 120 miles were full of singing and waving to people who were out for Sunday rides on motorcycles and in their favorite old cars.
Good times were had by all and we need to gush a little about Tim and Barb, our support trailer team who, once again helped us out all day! Tim pointed out to us that the horn seemed to be sticking so we had better start squeezing it a little more so it would work in fine order.
We are all hunkered down at Mario’s Spa in Aurora, Ohio tonight. The rooms are wonderful as was the dinner.
The entire team is thrilled to have completed our first full day and looking forward to the next 24!
By the way, Tim…..I DID START IT.

Congratulations on your first full day. We are hoping to see you when you cross the Mississippi River in Clinton Iowa. Keep smiling and squeezing that horn

It was a pleasure having you for the evening here at Mario’s International here in Aurora, Ohio. I personally have never heard of Ms Alice Ramsey until today but, after reading the history, I must say she is a remarkable young woman. I think what you and your entire team is doing is a very remarkable and admirable feat. I will be sure to keep up on your blog and see how everything is progressing for you. Good luck and safe travels.

Congratulations! I have been following your adventure with great interest and to be honest, much envy and was so thrilled to hear of your cloud and trouble-free Sunday drive. Keep those notes from the road coming and always remember that it’s not the destination that matters but the journey itself.
Best of luck,
