Vassar Reception

What an amazing crowd welcoming us to Vassar this afternoon! Although running 2 hours late due to mechanical difficulties, the staff and crowd at Vassar were incredible. Driving the car through the arch onto the campus grounds we were greeted by the President and escorted to a lovely reception. The President declared today “Alice Ramsey Drive Day” and presented the Ramsey Family with a beautifully framed copy of the decree. I was speechless and I know the reception was significant on so many levels for the Ramsey’s - as Peter exclaimed as we arrived, “We are finally home!” Thank you to the Vassar staff and especially Jeff Kosmacher for making our experience such a memorable one.

Some of the most pleasant moments of my life have been spent riding the back roads in a Model A or Model T Ford with my husband. I hope one day to be able to drive the cars but my physical limitations will not allow me to do so.
It is the greatest way to see our country and meet its people.
May God bless you with a safe trip!

Hi Emily and Crew,
Fabulous to meet you at Vassar yesterday! As promised, I alerted the rangers at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park (136 Fall Street) in Seneca Falls and the mayor, Diana Smith, re your planned arrival; told them they could follow your progress on Twitter. I also posted some pics & video on my blog at http://www.pennycolman.blogspot.com. I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed (as my great aunt would say)that your car is fixed and all is well with everyone.

As a first-hand witness to your first day of adventures on the road, I think the Vassar stop was the apex, as the crowds welcoming you to Poughkeepsie recalled the excitement that surrounded EVERY automobile when they were still a novelty back in 1909. It was also inspiring to see how proud Vassar is of achievements of its alumnae, especially since every one was a step forward for women in general.
