June 29th
Today was a super short day for us, but what a break through for Babbs! Babbs has been strong and completed the milage for 4 1/2 days in a row(1/2 because we started in Kimball after lunch the other day). I guess she was just saving her get up and go for the mountains. We understand Babbs, don’t worry, we are at home in the mountains too!
We headed out this morning a little later than normal, knowing we had a short day ahead of us. It was an absolutely beautiful drive through the Provo Valley and Rainbow Bay was breathtaking! The Utah modern car drivers were still to be feared, but it was better than yesterday.
The roadkill was a sight to be seen and smelled this morning. In the first 18 miles we counted 5 dead deer, a dead moose, (YES! Moose!) a small dead bird, and a couple raccoons. Em and I had to cover our mouths and there was even some dry heaving. Yesterday, I saw a rotting carcass that was bent over a fence. Looks like it got stuck and just died there. It was crazy! I bring this up in hopes to really paint a picture of how, as we have mentioned in previous blogs, things like that are just a little more real and you notice more when you are moving at 35 MPH in a car with no doors, windshield, or roof.
A warm welcome goes out to Anne and Bill. Bill and Anne are very good family friends of the Anderson’s. In fact, Bill put our maps and directions together for the drive! Thanks Bill! They will be driving with us in their Maxwell from Lehi, UT to Ely, NV. It has been a few days since we have had another car in the mix, so we are excited to have them here!.
We said goodbye to our friend Stijnus tonight, as he is headed back to the Netherlands. However, we would like to welcome to his 2 friends, Wilhelm and Hans who will make sure the Spyker arrives in San Francisco. We had a great group dinner tonight at Tepanyaki, http://www.my-tepanyaki.com/, a Japanese steak house (think Benihana). It was fun catching shrimp in our mouths and watching them bounce off of peoples faces! We are sad to see Stijnus go, but Claus has promised us that we will love Wilhelm and Hans just the same! Safe trip Stijnus! Watch out for mens rooms with dryers and that thieving mother in law of yours!
More pictures tomorrow, I promise!

I Have been following your adventure and we are looking forward to your arrivial in Nevada. Red Ladner, maybe Don Richie and others plan to join you for a bit of the way. We also will be at the museum Monday the 6th.
Looking forward to meeting you!

I appreciate the updates! It’s hard to see the road from so far away, but your description sure make the roadkill awfully vivid. May you have clean highways from here on to San Fransisco!

You mean Stijnus didn’t catch that thieving mother in law? She stole his wallet and he still owes me money. What do I do now? How will I everfix the Rambler?

Way to go Emily! Dick and I are enjoying your amazing journey. Waiting to see a pic of Kaisa Penelope-Jane and Grandma Buppy. Maybe at the end of the trip. Good luck the rest of the way. P

you guys (that would be girls) are doing a great job and the writings really help make it feel like i am right there in the back seat watching it all fly by (well, i guess at a max of 35 mph in the maxwell, that would be flow by). i am excited to see you next week and join you again. what happened to Cass? did she have to leave the team? i hope sally is still with you and that kaisa is aging well and providing her mom with lots of love and encouragement :)

Sure brings me back to 1985 when we made a similar trip in a 1902 Oldsmboile. Good lock to you and I look forward to reading the book that surely will come out of this venture. Say hello to your father. We hope to see you and the car and your dad at Hershey
