Meeting of the minds.

June 24th.

With a broken car and broken spirits, we had a team meeeting at  the hotel to discuss the future of Babbs (the car).  To be honest, it was a little sad to see our entuisiastic team so discouraged.  We had to really discuss and revisit the big picture.  How important is it for  babbs to be our chariot until the end?  Should we keep moving to keep on schedule?

We certanly don’t have all the answers, but the one thing we know for sure is the entire team wants to see Babbs sitting under the Golden Gate Bridge!

With the help of Joel Linn, Rich and Tim put Babbs back together in Kimball, NE this morning and Em and I were able to drive the 2nd half of the day.  Unfortunately, our friends in the Rambler had a stroke of bad luck today that John  referred to as the “Green Car Syndrome”.  The Rambler was towed to the trailer in Kimball.  As soon as we got the Maxwell running we tagged out and they loaded up.  John, Doug, and Don have been running with us in the Rambler since Omaha, NE.  Their energy is fun and contagious and we are sad to see them go!

Emily and I were trying to send Babbs some good energy and we wore our good luck scarves.  Although, they were pretty and fun for about 15 miles flying down the road  I thought I was going to have to cut it off of Emily’s head.  Think gum in a childs hair.  It was messy.

Aside from the Rambler breaking down and Tim and Rich working on Babbs all morning, the day went very well.  Babbs is up and running. We left the midwestern humidity behind, and we are in Wyoming! Em and I both lived in this state for a while and it was exciting crossing the boarder.  The air was SO sweet, the the country was beautiful and the roads were much less crowded.  Seeing the mountains will be a treat along with some natural cool air.

We rolled into the courtyard in downtown Cheyenne in front of the Depot where many beautiful cars were already on display.  Em parked like a champ and we got to mingle for a while.  Sitting in a 1904 Winton owned by Donna and Larry Hughes, was a highlight.  That was the model car that Horatio Jackson,  the first man who drove cross country, drove  in 1903.

We shared a meal with about 30 people from various car clubs around Colorado and Wyoming.  I (Christie) sat at the table with Christine and Mark Williamson who gave me the local low down on a better route for tomorrow omitting some potentially hazardous roads.

The mountains tomorrow are heavy on our minds, but we are proud of Babbs for puling through and looking forward to more elevation!

Colorado Here we come!

  5. It was an honor to see your team and Babs as well as the other cars in the Cheyenne Depot! My family are Antique car buffs and I love any chance to show my one year old daughter that she can achieve anything! Thank you for exemplifying Alice’s spirit!

  7. Dear Emily,
I met you at the National Women’s Hall of Fame. I thought you were an extraordinary women to do what you are doing. You have faced many hardships that would bring many women to tears. When you have done all you can to inspire those around you and it is physically or financially impossible to go on, then and only then should you even think of abandoning your dream. It is our dreams that seperate us from the ordinary but dreams are no good without the drive to fulfill them. I wish you the best and am watching your drive via bloggs on your site. Be safe, be well, Beth Harris
