Glenmoor Update

So, it is true. The Ramsey Family, Rich Anderson and myself (Bengt) headed out to Glenmoor a few weekends ago. The car had been shipped a week prior and we were to meet it Saturday morning. Saturday morning arrives and we had heard nothing from the driver or the shipping company. So Rich and I decide to connect with Glenmoor Gathering Exec. Director David Schultz and track down the ‘09 Maxwell. After a few phone calls we found the car sitting in the back of the shipping truck which was in turn sitting in Fort Collins, CO. a mere 25-30 hour drive from Canton, OH (where it needed to be). The reality dawned on us that Alice and the Maxwell would not be showing her face at Glenmoor this year. The worst part about the whole thing is that 5 of us had flown out and David Schultz and the Concours staff had worked hard to get us there. They have graciously invited all of us back next year, including the car and Emily, when the car will have been road-proven and tired from the long haul.
The one shining moment for the Alice’s Drive team was on Saturday night at the excellent sit-down dinner. The dinner opened with an introduction from David and was followed by a brief live auction/fundraiser. Somewhere mid-auction I leaned into my dad (Rich) and told him I thought we should auction off a leg of the drive (one day in the car with Em and the team) through Ohio for next June. He thought it was a great idea, as did the Peter, Isabel and Andrew Ramsey, so I headed up and relayed the idea to David Schultz. He agreed and quickly tacked it on to the tail end of the auction. I briefly introduced who we were and what the heck we are doing and, of course, who Alice Ramsey was.
The bidding began and a small bidding war began to unfold between a few gentlemen who wanted to buy a trip for their wives (nice move guys) and a woman sitting at one of the front tables. Within about 5 minutes the bidding had reached a near fever pitch and (wow! we were surprised!) the ride in the Maxwell went to the highest bidder at $1500!!! If you can believe it! And guess who bought herself a ride in the car?? None other than the Exec. Director of the Concours, David Schultz’s wife, Jane! What an awesome candidate! She fought tooth and nail for the coveted spot and with some urging from friends and a terrorized look on David’s face she raised her hand and her bid to $1500!
Thank you so much Jane! For believing in us and joining the team! We can’t wait to share the experience with you and hope you’ll bring as much life, energy and lots of good stories to tell when we pick you up as you did at the auction.
A very sincere thank you to Glenmoor! Sorry you didn’t see the car this year…but keep your eyes peeled for us TWICE next year as we pass through on the drive and then stop and say hello during the 2009 Concours.
